Ride Well, Work Well
Funding secured: Just over £80,000 from the Active Travel England Innovation Fund – Dec 2025
Through our Trafford Council commissioned service, Build My Bid supported Simply Cycling to develop a successful funding application for Ride Well, Work Well. The project responds to a practical problem identified through conversations with job clubs and community partners: some residents were struggling to access or sustain employment because travel was too costly, while others lacked the confidence to cycle independently.
The programme will connect employability support with active travel across five neighbourhoods. It aims to support 120 residents with cycling skills, road awareness and personalised journey planning, with 60 people targeted to secure or sustain employment. A fleet of 15 loan bikes will help participants travel affordably when they find work. The project will also offer inclusive cycling opportunities for people with limiting long-term health conditions, working alongside health and social prescribing partners.
Build My Bid’s support helped shape these connected needs into a fundable project. Ride Well, Work Well shows how cycling can do more than increase physical activity: it can help people build confidence, overcome transport barriers and access employment.
